Curriculum In Action:

CIA Visit on May 12, 2015 by Debra Dumas

The ADMT students were working on designs of homes using form board and floor plans. The students used some type of Auto CADD. One of the homes that is picture below used Auto CADD Architect. This was a very engaging hands-on project. The academy students were introduced to designing homes and the many aspects of what is involved in building and planning the layout of a home. The skills that the students are acquiring can be applied to many industries interior design to manufacturing; and will assist them in career readiness and secondary education.

After the homes are completed, the pupils must write up a technical paper that includes many specifications about the home from color schemes to the history of design of the house. What an amazing project that introduces the students to so many careers, for example, interior designing.

Participated in summer academy project writing workshop along with Wilson, Thompson (core teachers)
I rotated with the English teachers meeting each one on early release days and during lunch on professional development early release days (in other words I meet with one at a time).
So I meet with each teacher once a month.
Primary focus for each session was what the English teacher was working on in class and did we need to make adjustments to our schedule as it applied to integrated projects.
Standard 8: Staff Development
Participated in two of the three Academy Directors Meetings, Master Planning, EOC writing, PLTW workshops at ERAU.
Standard 9: Articulation

Please see the attachment for more information about articulations.
High School Showcase Dec. 2014
VMA Showcase was a great place for articulations to naturally occur for several reasons:
  1. A marketing table was setup to share information with students and the community about the academy.
  2. VMA Showcase allowed students as well as their families to get an opportunity to see the academy students in action with the robots and applying what they learned.
  3. VMA also assisted with articulations because many of the academy students talked to college recruiters as well as employers regarding internships.
Standard 10: Workbased Learning

Standard 11: Capstone Project
100% of students in CEA
100% of students in Technical Design 1-3
